A coach texted you. Here is how to keep it.

Updated August 15, 2026

Use "+ Log correspondence" on the program screen or in Correspondence. Pick the school and the coach, say how it happened — text, call, DM, questionnaire, in person — put the date it actually happened, and paste or summarise what was said. It joins that program's timeline immediately, and Skoutd reads it when it writes your next follow-up.

Why this is not automatic

The highest-value contact in recruiting — a coach texting a camp invitation — never touches an email pipeline, so no tool can capture it for you. Skoutd is honest about that rather than pretending otherwise: replies to the emails you send go to your own inbox, because they are sent with your address as the reply-to.

Logging takes about fifteen seconds and it is the single highest-return habit in the product. Everything downstream — your next follow-up, your next steps, the camp on your calendar — is built from what it knows happened.

Put the real date on it

The date field is when the conversation happened, not when you are typing. Correspondence is almost always logged after the fact, so a text from three weeks ago should sort into its own place in the timeline rather than jumping to the top. Skoutd keeps both: the date it happened decides the order, and it separately knows when you recorded it.

You cannot date something more than a day in the future — that is a calendar event, not a conversation.

What happens after you log it

  • It appears on that program's timeline, attributed to the coach.
  • If the message came from the coach and mentions a camp, a visit or a deadline, Skoutd adds it to your calendar automatically and marks it as AI-added. If it got that wrong, delete it in one tap.
  • Your next steps update within a minute or so — a coach you owe a reply to moves to the top.
  • Your next follow-up to that coach is written knowing what they said.

You can log something with no particular person

Not every contact has a name you know yet — a camp table, a general enquiry, a questionnaire. Leave the coach as "No specific person" and it still files against the school, because the relationship is with the program.

Frequently asked questions

Does Skoutd read my texts or my email?

No. It has no access to your phone or your inbox, and automatic capture of inbound email is deliberately not built. Everything inbound is there because you logged it.

Do I have to paste the message word for word?

No. A summary in your own words is fine. More detail gives the AI more to work with when it drafts your follow-up.

Can I log something for a school that is not on my list?

Yes — search the full directory in the log form. Cut it against any school; adding it to your list is a separate choice.
